The event was hosted by the Council of State Government (CSG), National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), and the National Governors Association (NGA) Center for Best Practices as part of Indiana's participation in the Occupational Licensing Learning Consortium. The objectives for the day included learning about occupational regulation in the health sector and a deeper dive into selected interstate licensure compacts for select health occupations (physicians, nurses, licensed practical nurses, and emergency medical services personnel).Item 2018 Indiana Health Workforce Summit Presentations(Indiana University, 2018-06-21) Bowen Center for Health Workforce Research & PolicyThe 2018 Indiana Health Workforce Summit provided attendees the opportunity to learn and engage in discussions on top health workforce initiatives and priorities in Indiana. The Summit featured a slate of top-notch panelists and breakout sessions dedicated to pressing and emerging health policy issues in Indiana today. Highlights included special sessions focused on the health priorities identified by Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb: supporting the health of communities stricken by the opioid epidemic and advancing maternal and child health.Item Breakout Session: Attacking the Drug Epidemic(Bowen Center for Health Workforce Research & Policy, 2017-06-20) Duwve, Joan; Herrmann, Debbie; McClelland, Jim; Oruche, Ukamaka M.This panel presented on Governor Eric Holcomb’s fourth pillar, “Addressing the Drug Epidemic” and explored the implications of this pillar for the health workforce. Panelists described various initiatives taken within the State to attack the epidemic, including: public health workforce strategies, behavioral health and primary care integration, and the formation of the Commission to Combat Drug Abuse.Item Breakout Session: Developing a 21st Century Skilled and Ready Health Workforce(Bowen Center for Health Workforce Research & Policy, 2017-06-20) Cattell, Zach; Janney, Michelle; Kloth, Jason; Barnes, MichaelThis panel presented on Governor Eric Holcomb’s third pillar, “Developing a 21st Century Skilled and Ready Workforce,” and explored the implications of this pillar for the health workforce. Panelists defined workforce development, discussed strategies from the industry, employer, and academic perspectives.
