Item An Assessment of Indiana's Maternity Care Workforce: 2022 Report(Bowen Center for Health Workforce Research & Policy, 22-10-03) Dickinson, Analise; Vaughn, Sierra; Maxey, HannahHealth professionals who provide perinatal and labor and delivery (L&D) services are essential to ensuring access to care for pregnant women, a population that -typically requires specialized services. Understanding the availability of maternity care is essential to supporting maternal and infant health and improving risks associate with mortality. Most maternity care providers are generally comprised of physicians who specialize in obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) or family medicine. In addition to physicians, advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) who collaborate with physicians, such as certified nurse midwives (CNMs), nurse practitioners (NPs), and clinical nurse specialists (CNSs), may provide maternity care services. This assessment provides details of the physicians and APRNs who provide maternity care services in Indiana.Item Issue Brief: Indiana’s Health Professions Workforce Shortages and Mal-distribution(2007-10) McKeag, Douglas B.; Zollinger, Terrell W.; Allen, Deborah I.; Przybyiski, Michael J.; Holloway, Angela M.; Kochhar, Komal; Muegge, Carolyn M.; Emery, Elizabeth J.Workforce shortages have been documented across a broad spectrum of health profession disciplines in Indiana. Currently, federal, state and local programs exist to recruit and retain health professionals in our state; however, these programs have had minimal impact on the underlying factors that contribute to the problem. Additional steps must be taken to expand the supply of health professionals to adequately meet the growing need for health care services among Indiana residents. While many health professional shortages exist, this brief will focus on the primary care physicians and nurses needed to provide medical homes for residents of our state.Item Indiana Registered Nurse 2002 Survey Report(2007-11) Zollinger, Terrell W.; Przybyiski, Michael J.; Sutton, Brittany S.; Jackson, Linda D.A voluntary survey instrument was attached to the Registered Nurse (RN) license renewal form during the 2005 Indiana RN re-licensure period. The RN survey was implemented through a collaboration of the Indiana State Department of Health and the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency. This report summarizes the responses to the survey items and compares the results of this survey to the results of previous RN surveys.Item Report of Responses to the 2003, 2005 and 2007 Indiana Physician Surveys(2009-04) Allen, Deborah I.; Zollinger, Terrell W.; Kochhar, Komal; Reger, Michael K.; Chowdhury, ShabnamA variety of survey methods have been used since the 1970’s to learn more about the physician supply and distribution in the state of Indiana. Since 1997, a voluntary survey instrument has been attached to the physician license renewal form, which physicians complete every 2 years. Those renewing their licenses online in 2003, 2005 and 2007 were invited to complete the survey. Those renewing their license through the mail were not given the opportunity to complete the survey. The physician survey was implemented through a collaboration of the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) and the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency (IPLA). This report summarizes the responses to the 2007 Indian a registered nurse re-licensure survey and compares them to the results of the prior registered nurse re-licensure surveys reported in the Indiana Registered Nurse Survey Databook, 1997 and 2001 and the 2005 Indiana Registered Nurse Re-Licensure Survey Report.Item Report of Responses to the 2004, 2006, and 2008 Physician Assistant Re-Licensure Surveys(2010-02) Zollinger, Terrell W.; Kochhar, Komal; Alyea, Jennifer M.The Indiana State Department of Health and the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency developed a collaborative partnership to collect data through the licensing process to better understand the health professions workforce within the state. Beginning in 2004, physician assistants were asked to participate in voluntary surveys when renewing their licenses ever y two years. The purpose of this report is to summarize the participants’ responses to the survey items. The responses provide a detailed description of the physician assistant workforce in the state of Indiana to aid in the development of policies and programs to recruit and retain these health professionals where they are needed in Indiana.Item Behavioral and Mental Health Professionals 2004 and 2006 Re-Licensure Survey Report(2010-05) Zollinger, Terrell W.; Kochhar, Komal; West, Jessica M.; Varma, Ram A.The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) and the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency (IPLA) collaborated in implementing the 2004 and 2006 Indiana mental health professional re-licensure surveys. All behavioral and mental health professionals who renewed their license electronically during the 2004 and 2006 re-licensure periods under the Behavioral Health and Human Services Licensing Board were asked to complete an electronic survey instrument. The results of the special Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Survey conducted in 2010 are also included in this report.Item Pharmacists Re-Licensure 2004 and 2008 Survey Report(2010-08) Zollinger, Terrell W.; Kochhar, Komal; West, Jessica M.; Varma, Ram A.The 2004 and 2008 Indiana pharmacist re-licensure survey was implemented through a collaborative partnership with the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) and the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency (IPLA). All pharmacists who renewed their license electronically during the 2004 and 2008 re- licensure periods were asked to complete an electronic survey. This report summarizes the responses to the survey items to provide a detailed description of the pharmacist workforce in the state of Indiana.Item Development and Assessment of a Public Health Alert Delivered through a Community Health Information Exchange(2010-10) Gamache, Roland; Stevens, Kevin C; Merriwether, Rico; Dixon, Brian E.; Grannis, ShaunTimely communication of information to health care providers during a public health event can improve overall response to such events. However, current methods for sending information to providers are inefficient and costly. Local health departments have traditionally used labor-intensive, mail-based processes to send public health alerts to the provider community. This article describes a novel approach for delivering public health alerts to providers by leveraging an electronic clinical messaging system within the context of a health information exchange. Alerts included notifications related to the 2009 H1N1 flu epidemic, a syphilis outbreak, and local rabies exposure.
