Item Models of User Satisfaction: Understanding False Positives(ALA, 1993) Applegate, RachelWhat does it mean to say that users are 'satisfied' with online searches or other products of information retrieval systems? A review of research in library and information science, computer systems, marketing, and psychology reveals three models of user satisfaction. In the Material Satisfaction Model, product performance (e.g. recall and precision) determine whether a user's stated question is answered (material satisfaction). In Emotional Satisfaction Model-Simple Path, users are "happy" or emotionally satisfied when their questions have been answered. In the Emotional Satisfaction Model-Multiple Path, users' happiness depends not only on questions answered (material satisfaction) but also on factors such as setting and expectations. This last model allows an understanding of the phenomenon of "false positive" emotional satisfaction: users who are happy with bad searches. The choice of model has implications for user services and for research into user-system interaction.Item Deconstructing Faculty Status: Research and Assumptions(Elsevier, 1993) Applegate, RachelArguments for faculty status have traditionally been based upon a comparative model: librarians want their roles to be compared to those of faculty, not administrators. The author of this article, however, finds almost no empirical research on the status, roles, and benefits of faculty, librarians, and administrators to support this model. She posits several alternative approaches to the faculty status issue.Item Wondering Wiggling, and Weaving: A New Model for Project and Community Based Learning on the Web(1997-04) Lamb, AnnetteItem Top Ten Facts of Life for Distance Education(2000-02) Lamb, AnnetteItem Top Ten Facts of Life for Distance Education(2000-02) Lamb, AnnetteItem Literature Ladders(2001-01) Lamb, AnnetteItem Academic Technology: The Convergence of Diverse Disciplines(2003-04) Johnson, Larry; Lamb, Annette; Teclehaimanot, BerhaneItem A Narrative History of Resource Sharing in the State of Maryland(This is an electronic version of an article published in the Journal of Access Services 2, no. 2 (2004): 47-52.[BREAK][LINK]http://www.informaworld.com/smpp/title~content=t792306886~db=all[/LINK]. Ask a librarian: [LINK] http://www.ulib.iupui.edu/research/askalibrarian[/LINK]., 2004-07) Copeland, Andrea J.The evolution of statewide resource sharing and reciprocal borrowing for Maryland public libraries is discussed. Beginning in the 1950s, the Enoch Pratt Free Library assumed responsibility for filling interlibrary loan requests or the state due to the size of its collection. In 1971, Pratt became the State Library Resource Center and its interlibrary loan responsibilities became formalized. Through a series of technological advancements in library catalogs and interlibrary loan systems, Maryland has arrived at the MARINA system to facilitate sharing resources throughout the state. The state has a long-standing philosophy of cooperation, which makes the MARINA endeavor possible.Item Key Words in Instruction: Audience Analysis(2004-09) Callison, Daniel; Lamb, AnnetteItem Key Words in Instruction: WebQuests(2004-10) Lamb, Annette
