Abstract

This practical and engaging presention will cover some of the major legal issues that flutists should be aware of at all levels of their careers.

Description
Think flutists don’t need to worry about the law? Think again! Being uninformed about the law is not an excuse and technology has made some of the questions about what you can and cannot do, especially in using the work of others, even more confusing. Each new technology, such as social media, brings benefits as well as risks. This engaging presentation will cover some of the major legal issues that musicians should be aware of at all levels of their careers. The focus will be on copyright law, but the presentation will also cover trademark law and branding, contracts and licensing, use of technology for promotion and distribution and special issues related to freelancing. Learn how to use the law to protect yourself, your creative work and your professional reputation and avoid making mistakes that could result in needless expense and damage to your career. The presentation will also include forms, templates and lists of reference sources and websites. The presenter is a lawyer, a professor and a member of NFA and the American Viola Society. This presentation will complement the successful series of career workshops held at the 2011 NFA Annual Convention.
