dc.description.abstract | The organizational structures of academic libraries are conisdered in light of the work of a number of organizational theorists, and related work by librarians is reviewed. An organizational paradigm for effective academic libraries is developed based on this review. The paradigm is composed of five parts: a modified professional bureaucratic structure, flexible resource allocation, the use of management information systems, the export of production functions, and the development of an organizational philosophy. | en |
