This community consists of a series of collections containing historical information about the Indiana University School of Medicine Medical Educational Resources Program (MERP) and its television station, WAT 21. The Indiana University School of Medicine created the media production unit in 1967 as part of "The Indiana Plan" to improve the quantity and quality of educational opportunities for medical students and practicing physicians statewide. Operating one of the nation’s largest closed circuit medical television networks, MERP’s dual mission was to develop and distribute materials to support both the medical school curriculum and continuing medical education (CME) programming.
