Item Patiently Doctoring: A Riley Hospital for Children and Harrison Center for the Arts Partnership(Indiana University School of Medicine, 2006) Riley Hospital; Pescovitz, Ora Hirsch; Elder, ElyceIn 2006, Riley Hospital staff undertook a pilot project which allowed a group of patients to work with experienced art therapist Elyce Elder and Child Life staff members to create artwork that depicted their hospital experience. Creating the art provided the children a “voice” to discuss their hospital experience. Elder interpreted the artwork with the children to clarify what they were thinking and feeling. This project was put into a book, “Patiently Doctoring,” which is now being used in family communication courses at the Indiana University School of Medicine.Item Voices from Riley: A Collection of Prayers from the Patients, Families and Caregivers of One of the Nation's Top Children's Hospitals(Anderson University Press, 2012) Riley Hospital for ChildrenAround 2010—2011, then Riley Chief Operating Officer, Brett Lee, who wanted to share the spiritual heart of Riley Hospital with others, approached Chaplain Manager Rev. Dan Young and Rev. Beth Watson, IU Health Director of Chaplaincy Services, about reviewing the prayers from some of the most recent prayer books from the Chapel. The idea was to select some of the most memorable prayers for publication in a book. The project resulted in the published volume, Voices from Riley. Brett led the team (himself, Beth Watson, and Dan Young) in doing the initial review of the prayers, selecting the ones to be included and finding a publisher who would create a beautiful volume. Both Beth Watson and Dan Young reviewed the prayers and wrote the pastoral reflections for each section.
