The shell is designed to be used by instructors everywhere and can support in-person, online, or hybrid instruction. It has been used in over 150 rst-year seminar classes at IUPUI. The shell is comprised of assignments, activities, and guidelines for instructors that Powell has either collected or developed.Item Brian Dixon: 2020 Open Education Award Winner(2020) IUPUI University LibraryDr. Dixon uses OERs in assignment for his online courses from government websites. In PBHL-E645, students utilize a portion of the Open Learning initiative’s “Health Information and Technology Foundations,” a completely free resource. Students review basic systems in health care, such as electronic health record systems, because in this course they will examine how to interconnect these systems together. To avoid the need for pre-requisites (which can be costly), students review a few modules from an OER. They are then prepared to discuss how these systems can become interoperable to support population health challenges. The OER really helps set a level playing eld for all students as it is new material to some, and review for others. Students consistently report the OER is useful to them in this course.Item Brian E. His PBHL-E635 students analyze open data sets that he provides from government websites. In PBHL-E645, students utilize a portion of the Open Learning initiative’s “Healthcare Information and Technology Foundations,” a completely free resource.Item Carole Kacius: 2019 Open Education Award Finalist(2019) IUPUI University LibraryDr. Kacius uses public domain, government documents in PBHL-S625: Applied Public Health Campaigns and Social Marketing Strategies. In the fall of 2018, Dr. Kacius worked with University Library to create an open access book of the sources used in the course.Item Elizabeth Thill: 2020 Open Education Award Finalist(2020) IUPUI University LibraryDr. Thill has created multiple VR experiences and 3D prints that use OER 3D Models of Classical sculpture and architecture, drawn from Scan The World (MyMiniFactory.com), Sketchfab.com, and 3DWarehouse.com. Progress is regularly evaluated with revisions to the plan made accordingly.
