Item 2023 Open Education Award Nominees(2023-03) IUPUI University LibraryPoster showcasing the nominees for the 20203 IUPUI Open Education AwardItem Amy Powell: 2022 Open Education Award Winner(2022-03) IUPUI University LibraryAmy Powell has created and deployed a new Canvas course shell for use in First-Year Experience (FYE) courses. The shell is designed to be used by instructors everywhere and can support in-person, online, or hybrid instruction. It has been used in over 150 rst-year seminar classes at IUPUI. The shell is comprised of assignments, activities, and guidelines for instructors that Powell has either collected or developed.Item Brian Dixon: 2020 Open Education Award Winner(2020) IUPUI University LibraryDr. Dixon uses OERs in assignment for his online courses from government websites. In PBHL-E645, students utilize a portion of the Open Learning initiative’s “Health Information and Technology Foundations,” a completely free resource. Students review basic systems in health care, such as electronic health record systems, because in this course they will examine how to interconnect these systems together. To avoid the need for pre-requisites (which can be costly), students review a few modules from an OER. They are then prepared to discuss how these systems can become interoperable to support population health challenges. The OER really helps set a level playing eld for all students as it is new material to some, and review for others. Students consistently report the OER is useful to them in this course.Item Brian E. Dixon: 2019 Open Education Award Finalist(2019) IUPUI University LibraryDr. Dixon uses OERs in assignment for his online courses. His PBHL-E635 students analyze open data sets that he provides from government websites. In PBHL-E645, students utilize a portion of the Open Learning initiative’s “Healthcare Information and Technology Foundations,” a completely free resource.Item Carole Kacius: 2019 Open Education Award Finalist(2019) IUPUI University LibraryDr. Kacius uses public domain, government documents in PBHL-S625: Applied Public Health Campaigns and Social Marketing Strategies. In the fall of 2018, Dr. Kacius worked with University Library to create an open access book of the sources used in the course.Item Elizabeth Thill: 2020 Open Education Award Finalist(2020) IUPUI University LibraryDr. Thill has created multiple VR experiences and 3D prints that use OER 3D Models of Classical sculpture and architecture, drawn from Scan The World (MyMiniFactory.com), Sketchfab.com, and 3DWarehouse.com. Furthermore Dr. Thill has integrated these prints and VR experiences classes and are launching Ancient World 3D (AW3D) and the 3D Learning Library (3D2L) at University Library.Item Jason M Kelly: 2020 Open Education Award Finalist(2020) IUPUI University LibraryDr. Kelly focuses on two OER projects created by the nominee for use in formal and informal education contexts: A Frankenstein Atlas and An Anthropocene Primer .Item Jennifer Guiliano: 2019 Open Education Award Finalist(2019) IUPUI University LibraryDr. Guiliano uses OER texts in two different classes. She adopted the OER text, American Yawp, for History 106: American History II, and an OER Digital Humanities course developed by UCLA for her section of History 195: Intro to Digital Humanities. Dr. Guiliano is also developing an open textbook for Digital Native American and Indigenous Studies.Item Jennifer Price Mahoney: 2023 Open Education Award Winner(2023-03) IUPUI University LibraryJennifer Price Mahoney adopted two OER textbooks and used other freely available teaching materials for three separate writing courses. It is important to note that OER materials are being used in multiple courses in the Writing curriculum and that these courses impact a signi cant number of students. Ms. Mahoney has also documented the favorable reception of these materials by students, 67% of whom responded that OER readings were more helpful than materials they had used in other online courses.Item Jeremy Price: 2019 Open Education Award Finalist(2019) IUPUI University LibraryDr. Price created three open educational resources that focus on the use of technology for promoting social justice in the K12 setting. He uses WebQuest and two Hyperdocs to model inclusive and student-centered experiences for future teachers. Each resource is licensed under Creative Commons.
