Abstract

In April 2024, scholars, researchers, and practitioners came together to reflect on the theme of nurturing generosity within Hispanic/Latinx faith communities and explore these complex interconnections. The gathering provided a platform for sharing insights, strategies, and best practices aimed at fostering a culture of giving that resonates with the values and traditions of the Latinx community. Participants emphasized the importance of understanding the specific cultural contexts and religious beliefs that inform philanthropic behaviors. They also highlighted the need for inclusive approaches that recognize the diverse expressions of generosity within Hispanic/Latinx faith communities.

This report seeks to synthesize the key themes and insights from the event, offering a comprehensive overview of the discussions and findings. By grounding our analysis in historical perspectives, contemporary analysis, and insights from leading practitioners across multiple sectors, we aim to provide a well-rounded understanding of the opportunities and challenges in nurturing generosity within Hispanic/Latinx faith communities. As the event demonstrated, fostering a culture of giving requires not only an appreciation of the unique cultural and religious landscapes of specific communities, but also a commitment to ongoing dialogue and collaboration. This report is a step toward that goal, providing a foundation for further exploration and engagement in this vital area of study and practice.
