Abstract

Conventional, static concert venues have significant deficiencies and problems when presenting artistic work made possible by recent developments in music and visual technology. These new works necessitate a highly flexible, configurable environment to support their dynamic, explorative nature. Big Tent, an environment for artistic and aesthetic research being constructed in this project, seeks to demonstrate, through repeatable concerts of original mixed-media compositions, a fully immersive, yet portable solution beyond the capacities of traditional performance venues. This exploration comprises designing and constructing the environment, followed by artistic research through the creation of new aesthetic works and performances.
