Abstract

The Hungarian legislation ensures the right to everyone to establish and join organizations and communities based on freedom of association. The two traditional legal forms of nonprofit organizations are the association and the foundation. In addition to these, the CSO Law (Law CLXXV of 2011 on freedom of association, public benefit status and the operation and support of civil society organizations) recognizes an unincorporated legal form called ‘civil group’ (‘civil társaság’) that operates without legal personality. These three legal forms are considered ‘civil society organization’ as per the definition of the law.
