Individuals are free to form organizations, including POs, and there is generally little government interference with the types and purposes of such organizations during the formation process, save for those that relate to issues such as race and religion where the Societies Act (1966 and amendments) provides for “normal registration”. Most POs, however, would qualify for “automatic registration” under the Societies Act. POs need not be registered under the Societies Act (although common) and may be registered under other laws such as incorporating a company limited by guarantee under the Companies Act.en_US
