Report on April 2023 Symposium co-sponsored by the Center for the Church and the Black Experience at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary and Lake Institute on Faith & Giving at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. The Philanthropy and Black Church Project of the twentieth century raised awareness about the need for collaboration. The 2023 Symposium on Philanthropy and the Black Church revisited that earlier effort and explored the possibility of collaboration today. Speakers discussed how Black churches serve their communities, and why foundations may be reluctant to partner with them despite common concerns.
