Item Borders without Barriers: Improving the State of International Resource Sharing(2013-03-21) Baich, TinaIn 2007 and 2011 surveys conducted by the ALA RUSA STARS International ILL Committee, the identified barriers to international resource sharing were virtually identical. We must address international cooperation issues head-on and increase our knowledge of international resources in order to lower those barriers. In this presentation, I will cover possible ways to lower those barriers and facilitate more efficient resource sharing with other countries.Item Going global: an international survey of lending and borrowing across borders(Emerald Group Publishing Limited, http://www.emeraldinsight.com/fwd.htm?id=aob&ini=aob&doi=10.1108/02641611211214279, 2012) Baich, Tina; Weltin, HeatherPurpose – The purpose of this paper is to provide preliminary results of the 2011 survey on international interlending conducted by the ALA RUSA STARS International Interlibrary Loan Committee. Design/methodology/approach – An international survey was deployed using SurveyMonkey, an online survey tool, and distributed through various electronic resource sharing discussion lists and personal contacts with international libraries. Findings – The 2011 survey aimed toward international libraries revealed similar results to those of the Committee’s 2007 survey of US libraries. Most international interlending participants both borrow and lend materials internationally. Further analysis will be done focusing on barriers to as well as identification of common practices in international interlending. Originality/value – This research provides the most recent survey of international interlending practices and will yield potential methods and activities for improving resource sharing globally. Two surveys conducted by the RUSA STARS International ILL Committee identified a number of barriers to participating in international interlibrary loan. This presentation will discuss these barriers, possible improvements, and discovery resources for international interlibrary loan. Attendees will have the opportunity to share their own ideas and techniques for improving international resource sharing.
