Findings are based on survey data from 86 organizations, two-thirds (57) of which host one or more giving circles. Giving circles are now located in every state in the U.S., and engage people from a wide variety of racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds, gender identities, and age groups. Giving circles are estimated to have given as much as $1.29 billion to charitable causes since their inception. This research comprises the first of a three-part inquiry, which also looks at research underway related to the impact of participation in GCs on donor giving and civic engagement, and a study of the relationships between GCs and their hosting organizations.
