Item Acute and Delayed Cerebrovascular Injury From Gunshot to the Head in a 12-Year-Old Child During the COVID-19 Pandemic(Elsevier, 2022) Golomb, Meredith R.; Tejada, Juan G.; Ducis, Katrina A.; Martinez, Mesha L.; Neurology, School of MedicineItem A Challenging Combination: Anomalous Left Anterior Descending Coronary Artery, Myocardial Bridging, and Endothelial Dysfunction(Frontiers Media, 2020) El-Am, Edward A.; Corban, Michel T.; Pollak, Amy W.; Lerman, Amir; Ammash, Naser M.; Medicine, School of Medicine50 years old female patient with a medical history of hypertension presented to the clinic with chest pain, palpitations, and dyspnea on exertion of 2 years duration. Extensive workup in search of the culprit etiology of her chest pain revealed a challenging combination of an anomalous left anterior descending artery with myocardial bridging and endothelial dysfunction. She was treated medically with long acting nitrates, L-arginine and calcium channel blockers, and remains asymptomatic after 12 months of follow up.Item Delayed cerebral vasculopathy following pneumococcal meningitis: a case report(Oxford University Press, 2025-05-28) Aladawi, Mohammad; Elfil, Mohamed; Lookian, Pashayar; Najdawi, Zaid; Fayed, Mahmoud A.; DeOliveira, Edson; Phillips, Steven; Neurology, School of MedicineAcute bacterial meningitis (ABM) remains a common disease, especially in developing countries. Although morbidity and mortality have improved with advances in medicine, significant neurologic complications of meningitis still occur. Delayed cerebral vasculopathy (DCV) is a unique complication following ABM leading to ischemic strokes and poor functional outcomes. We describe a case of a 66-year-old man with repeated acute infarcts from DCV due to ABM, notably in the absence of empiric dexamethasone treatment, which was not administered as meningitis was diagnosed post-antibiotic initiation. New areas of acute ischemia were noted on repeat imaging on days 6, 24, and 30 of admission. Vascular imaging revealed multifocal vascular stenosis, consistent with vasospasm that was successfully treated with Milrinone.
