    Open access in interlibrary loan: sources and strategies for locating free materials online

    Even though open access materials are free for all, library users continue to request them through interlibrary loan. ILL staff are able to provide a service to users and a cost savings for their libraries by utilizing these materials. In this presentation, I will demonstrate open access resources that all libraries can use to fill interlibrary loan requests. I will also briefly discuss possible workflows for handling requests for open access materials.

    Opening Up to Open Access: Using Open Access Materials to Fill Borrowing Requests for Free

    In 2009, IUPUI University Library began tracking open access borrowing requests and has seen a substantial increase in their number since then. Even though open access materials are free for all, library users continue to request them through interlibrary loan. Using open access materials to fill ILL requests is both a service to users and a cost savings for the library. In this presentation, I will demonstrate the open access resources most commonly used by University Library's ILL department to fill requests. I will also discuss possible workflows for handling requests for open access materials.
