Item Global Cardiothoracic Surgery in an Academic Career: Lessons from Brazil(Brazilian Society of Cardiovascular Surgery, 2023-08-04) Nina, Vinicius; Farkas, Emily; Ceppa, DuyKhanh; Marath, Aubyn; Surgery, School of MedicineItem Internship Midterm and Final Evaluation Surveys Aligned with Course Goals and IUPUI+(Indiana University, 2022-02-10) Haas, Hannah J.These student and employer midterm and final evaluation surveys for an internship course were developed to provide a quick means for internship students and their supervisors to reflect on the students’ progress toward meeting the course goals and the two IUPUI Profiles of Learning for Undergraduate Success (IUPUI+) most closely associated with the course. The student surveys also gather important information from students on their supervisors’ ability to communicate policies and expectations, offer support and constructive feedback, and uphold the internship objectives and student learning outcomes. Employers’ surveys also ask them to report on the students’ timeliness and adherence to organizational policies. Survey feedback helps the internship course instructor ensure that students’ supervisors are providing true learning experiences in safe environments and that students are performing well in their positions and meeting the course goals. Feedback from the surveys is one of several means used in assessing the students’ grades for the work performed on-the-job at their internships.Item I’m Rooting for You: Cultivating Relationships with Graduate Student Workers(2024-05-02) Connell, Nicole; Hall, Danielle; Lebovitz, Sarah; Pieczko, Brandon T.; Vaughan, BennaThe current GLAM hiring culture is competitive and increasingly experience driven—students are expected to graduate from their master’s programs with varied practical experiences in addition to theoretical knowledge and familiarity with best practices in the field. What opportunities exist for both full-time and part-time students to gain these experiences, and how can practitioners help without overextending themselves? What work goes into supervising and collaborating with students? In this roundtable discussion, panelists will examine the various aspects of collaborations between professionals and student workers in archives. Hear examples from archives professionals who make space for library and archives students to gain hands-on, project-based, educational experiences that benefit their own institutions, their partner organizations, and above all, the student participants. Learn about advocating for and acquiring funding for student positions and the types of projects students complete during internships and practicum experiences, and gain insight into how practical work experience supports and supplements classroom curricula. When strong relationships exist between universities and professional archivists, students can enter the field as well-rounded,confident professionals with the experiences and peer support systems necessary to secure full-time employment.Item Making Internships Work!
