Item Systems-Based and Integrated Stem Alternative Education Models: The Role of Applied Anthropology(Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, 2015-04-17) Chapman, Christina MarieThis poster explores the concept of emerging systems-based alternative education models, and how applied anthropologists may prove useful in their development. These models utilize an integrative, non-hierarchical approach to education by empowering students through STEM habits of mind, systems-based thinking, and inquiry-based learning strategies coupled with meaningful real-world context. These models may be particularly useful in addressing disparities in minority or low SES populations by fostering community action, critical thinking, and entrepreneurship with an emphasis on social justice and environmental sustainability. This poster presents research-in-progress on the emergence of these models.
