Exploring the influence of adoption status on support system utilization in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
(2024-05) Sharma, Kanishkaa; Neal, Tiffany; Deodhar, Aditi; Devarapalli, Baby Amulya; Swiezy, Naomi
This study investigates how adoption status influences the use of support systems, specifically Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Family Support Waivers (FSWs), among children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Analysis of patient data revealed that biological families utilize these services more frequently than adoptive families. The findings highlight potential disparities in access and call for further research to understand and address the unique challenges faced by adoptive families in supporting children with ASD.
