Item A NEW APPROACH TO ENABLE THE BLIND PEOPLE TO “SEE”(Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, 2011-04-08) Miranda, Jose H.Eyes are one of the most important sensors for human beings to know the world. Unfortunately, people who are blind are detached from this capability. The focus of this research is to design a device containing an imaging system for these people. This device will contain a touch-based temperature image system to represent pixels of an image. We use Light-Emitting Diode (LED) lights as sensors. Certain LED lights will be turned on with the interactions of switches and resistors to create each image. Based on the temperature that these lights distribute, the sensory array would provide a touchable image for users. In addition, throughout the project, we will maintain a focus on maximizing user friendliness.Item STEALTH-LIKE COMMUNICATION WITHIN IMAGES(Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, 2012-04-13) Miranda, Jose H.; King, BrianEmbedded communication techniques within an image have be-come increasingly important in the area of digital communication. Such techniques include: steganography, covert channels, anonymity, and copyright marking. The focus of this research is developing a se-ries of experiments with an applied technique of steganography knowledge in order to protect the information being hidden through the image. This technique allows this stealth-like communication be confidential such that only those that possess authentication can read or interpret the data behind the image. In order for this authentication to work a user is granted a key, which allows the decoding of the data scattered around the different pixels of the image. Short-term goals of this project include setting different parameters of the location of the message such as fixed places of the data and fixed number of pixels. Long-term goals is to implement a smartphone communication sys-tem that utilizes this technique being developed in order to enhance this type of stealth-like communication.
