Although oncology spearheaded the clinical implementation of personalized medicine, other specialties are rapidly catching up. In anesthesia, classical examples of genetically mediated idiosyncratic reactions have been long known (e.g., malignant hyperthermia and prolonged apnea after succinylcholine).
