Item Failure recovery techniques over an MPLS network using OPNET(2014) Nemtur, Aamani; El-Sharkawy, Mohammed; King, Brian; Rizkalla, Maher E.Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) is an emerging technology which is the initial step for the forthcoming generation of communication. It uses Labels in order to identify the packets unlike the conventional IP Routing Mechanism which uses the routing table at each router to route the packet. MPLS uses the techniques of FRR with the help of RSVP/CR-LDP to overcome the link and/or node failures in the network. On the other hand there are certain limitations/drawbacks of using the above mechanisms for Failure Detection and Recovery which are multiple protocols such as RSVP/CR-LDP over OSPF/IS-IS and complex algorithms to generate backup paths since each router works individually in order to create a backup tunnel. So to overcome the listed limitations, this paper discusses a new technique for MPLS Networks which is Source Routing \cite{48}. Source Routing is the technique in which the source plays the role of directing the packet to the destination and no other router plays the role of routing the packet in the network. Using the OPNET Modeler 17.5 tool for implementing source routing when there is a network failure is performed and the results are compared by implementing RSVP/CR-LDP over the same failed network. The comparative results show that the network performance is best in the case of Source Routing implementation as compared to the RSVP and CR-LDP signaling over the MPLS Networks.Item A new adaptive trilateral filter for in-loop filtering(2014) Kesireddy, Akitha; El-Sharkawy, MohammedHEVC has achieved significant coding efficiency improvement beyond existing video coding standard by employing many new coding tools. Deblocking Filter, Sample Adaptive Offset and Adaptive Loop Filter for in-loop filtering are currently introduced for the HEVC standardization. However these filters are implemented in spatial domain despite the fact of temporal correlation within video sequences. To reduce the artifacts and better align object boundaries in video , a new algorithm in in-loop filtering is proposed. The proposed algorithm is implemented in HM-11.0 software. This proposed algorithm allows an average bitrate reduction of about 0.7% and improves the PSNR of the decoded frame by 0.05%, 0.30% and 0.35% in luminance and chroma.Item Secure data aggregation protocol for sensor networks(2015-02-20) Shah, Kavit; King, Brian; El-Sharkawy, Mohammed; Salama, PaulWe propose a secure in-network data aggregation protocol with internal verification, to gain increase in the lifespan of the network by preserving bandwidth. For doing secure internal distributed operations, we show an algorithm for securely computing the sum of sensor readings in the network. Our algorithm can be generalized to any random tree topology and can be applied to any combination of mathematical functions. In addition, we represent an efficient way of doing statistical analysis for the protocol. Furthermore, we propose a novel, distributed and interactive algorithm to trace down the adversary and remove it from the network. Finally, we do bandwidth analysis of the protocol and give the proof for the efficiency of the protocol.
