Reminiscence Therapy Implementation within Memory Care Unit to Promote Increased Quality of Life in Residents
(2022-04-30) Bender, Brooke E.; Wasmuth, Sally; Department of Occupational Therapy, School of Health and Human Sciences; Dunn, Carrie
Through program development and implementation this capstone project applied a psychosocial intervention, reminiscence therapy, within a twenty-six-bed memory care unit to address the mental health of the residents. The impact of the program was measured utilizing a Qualtrics survey. Results of the survey suggested improvements in mental health evidenced by observations of improved mood, appetite, social interactions, and decreased outbursts, as well as a variety of other improved factors contributing to mental health. A plan for sustainability was also included to ensure continued benefits of the residents and future residents.
