ONEAL: Exercise Analyzing a Journal Package

Abstract

This is an exercise in the Negotiation Planning Part 2 lesson in the Foundations module of the ONEAL Project's curriculum.

Purpose

This exercise supports the ONEAL (Open Negotiation Education for Academic Libraries) learning objective: Analyze your library’s position in negotiations by helping learners develop skills to analyze a journal package using information commonly found use data and list pricing.

Skills

The purpose of this assignment is to help you become more comfortable with preparing an analysis of a journal package using spreadsheet software. You will learn: ● How to prepare an analysis using Excel or Google Sheets ● How to integrate COUNTER data, list pricing, and interlibrary loan (ILL) costs to an analysis that evaluates switching to an a la carte purchasing model. ● How to use the information analyzed to formulate a counteroffer.
