Abstract

Background/Introduction: According to the AACN (2022), over 2,000 full-time faculty vacancies exist across more than 900 nursing schools. Several reasons contribute to the shortage of available nurse faculty, including inadequate support for novice nurse faculty. Literature acknowledges the need for faculty mentor programs to support the transition of novice nurse faculty, but gaps exist in identifying successful program standards. Purpose: The project incorporated the Nurse Educator Skill Acquisition Assessment Tool (NESAA) into the faculty mentorship aiming to determine if the restructured mentor program has an impact on the skill acquisition of novice nurse faculty after 16 weeks of mentoring.
