Abstract

This report examines Indiana's physician assistant (PA) workforce using data from the 2024 license renewal period. The analysis is based on a sample of actively practicing PAs who maintain practices in Indiana or provide telehealth services to Indiana residents. Findings indicate a workforce characterized by younger practitioners, made up predominantly of females, and possessing master's-level education. Over half completed their qualifying education within Indiana. The majority of PAs practice in hospital - inpatient and single-specialty group settings, with surgical subspecialties, emergency medicine, and family medicine representing the most common specialties. Geographic analysis reveals substantial workforce distribution disparities, with multiple counties reporting no PA presence and marked differences in population-to-provider ratios between urban and rural areas.
