Abstract

The LGBTQ+ Index provides the only systematically generated, comprehensive data on charitable organizations in the U.S. dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community and causes. This 2025 update includes data from 2012 to 2022, and shows that in 2022, philanthropic support for these organizations reached $908.9 million, an 8.8% increase over 2021, and a growth rate that outpaced overall charitable giving that year. Still, this support accounted for just 0.17% of total giving.

The LGBTQ+ Index is designed to offer donors, practitioners, and researchers insights into the characteristics and evolution of LGBTQ+ organizations over time. The LGBTQ+ Index is a project of the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy’s Equitable Giving Lab, an effort to better understand charitable giving to under-resourced communities.
