Abstract

Since ChatGPT’s launch in November 2022, generative artificial intelligence (genAI) has taken the world by storm. For better or worse, genAI has significantly changed how higher education functions, including Student Affairs and Residence Life. In the Spring of 2025, Alice Dahlka and Josh Rojas from Housing and Residence Life explored the functionality of Microsoft Copilot in analyzing and summarizing duty log data over the last 3 years. This session showcases the results of this project and invites participants to engage in a broad overview of genAI, including uses and limits; explore their professional approach to using genAI (or not); and discuss strategies for navigating genAI’s use in assessment.
