Hi, my name is David Wilkerson. I'm an associate professor at Indiana University School of Social Work and director of its Office of E Social Work Education and Practice in Indianapolis. Are you familiar with the 9991 rule? It states 90% of social media participants never contribute content. 9% contribute intermittently and 1% contribute consistently. The Romans participation in inequality can lead to mistakes when we use social media to make decisions about services we may want to use. However, it also operates in social media sites that provide support for people experiencing depression, anxiety, substance misuse, and other psychosocial challenges. My work involves overcoming the 991 rule and caregiver interventions that use online peer support delivered through social media. Participation inequality limits the range and diversity of content contributions, discourages participation, discourages persistence, and efforts needed for overcoming a problem. In this area, I've participated in disciplinary research teams in Dmentia Caregiver research and in research with caregivers of challenging Youth. I published and presented my work nationally and internationally and consulted with an online care support group in Ireland that was formed in response to COVID 19. Currently, colleague in Ireland and I are editing a forthcoming NASW press publication, titled Social Work in an online world, and it will present readers with a framework for online social work and nine practice miles to demonstrate the framework. In conclusion, I've greatly enjoyed my work here at NN University at Indianapolis, and I look forward to continuing my contributions in translating research into practice.
