Hello. My name is doctor Sylk Sota from Indiana University School of Medicine. I was once asked to tell others what I do without mentioning my titles or role. The answer didn't take long. My call is about making people feel like they belong, that they are here for a reason, and I will be here to cheer them on. In my role, I also make sure we understand not everyone has the same access, privilege, or has the same journey. I'm an Assistant Professor of Medicine and serve in several leadership roles across the Department of Medicine, the Indiana Clinical and Translational Science Institute, and the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Centers Office of Community Outreach and Engagement. My service and research centers on the study of inequities in academic medicine. More broadly, I like to examine the intersection of research, research ethics, and health equity, while making sure researchers practice cultural humility and relevance. I like to study and address structural barriers and opportunities for everyone's success within institutions. I like to enhance medical and stem education while promoting inclusive learning environments. Lastly, I like to expand and tailor faculty and professional development programs in ways that focus on historically marginalized groups. My service is my research. Honestly, I hope my work impacts more practice than. I want to positively affect institutional practices and influence reflection and action. I am pleased to be part of Indiana University, and even happier that I get to do it along with a wonderful community of colleagues, students, and trainees for the State of Indiana and with community members and partners in Indiana nationally and internationally. I am honored to be part of the Trip Scholars.
